The era of biofuels and bio-based chemicals has arrived. Rising oil prices continue to force the fuel andc hemical industries to look for alternative ways to produce their products. JOB GROWTH: According to results from the first ever statewide California Industrial BiotechnologyWorkforce Survey, industrial Biotechnologyc ompanies - those focused on biofuels, feedstocks and green industrial chemicals - grew 19 percent between 2009 and 2010. Over the past five years, this unique California segment grew 50 percent, or about 8 percent annually.
